The two installations tell about the cultivation of flax and the production of a useful fiber. Shown on Art Center in Gävle, 2016. One was placed inside the art gallery and one outside of Silvanum’s entrance.
The two installations tell about the cultivation of flax and the production of a useful fiber. The installation inside the art gallery is a field with unusually high flax, a vessel in which a retting is in progress and a sound. The sound tells about a romantic idea that the artists themselves brought when they started the project and about another, more reality-based relationship to flax, the human hand and the industrial process that expert Evert Åsberg from Åsbo possesses.
The installation at Silvanum’s entrance is a flax cultivation that will be sown, grown and pulled during the exhibition. A visualization of the dream of the linen.
Workshop in relation to the exhibition:
The participants in the art camp worked with the same material as the installation was made of. First we together harvested flax grown outside Silvanum. Then we worked for three days to create something of the narrow flax straw. Flax is a tricky material and requires patience to work with, so much work was needed to shape the pieces. The participants worked both individually and then together to achieve a larger hanging sculpture.
